Alexander Isak delighted after scoring Liverpool winner against Brentford
Alexander Isak expressed his delight after scoring the decisive goal in Liverpool’s 2-1 comeback victory over Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Swedish striker struck in the 70th minute at the Gtech Community Stadium, completing Liverpool’s turnaround after the hosts had taken the lead through Keane Lewis-Potter just before half-time.
“Super happy with the win. It’s a tough ground, it’s a tough team to play especially away from home. We knew it was going to be a bit of a scrappy game and it’s important to come out on top,” Isak said.
Brentford had started brightly and went ahead in the 44th minute when Lewis-Potter headed home Igor Thiago’s cross. However, their task became considerably harder when Yehor Yarmoliuk received a red card for violent conduct in first-half stoppage time.
Liverpool capitalised on their numerical advantage after the break, with Víctor Muñoz equalising in the 62nd minute following an assist from Florian Wirtz.
Eight minutes later, Bradley Barcola supplied the decisive pass for Isak, who finished confidently to secure all three points for the visitors.
Brentford’s frustration continued late in the match when Vitaly Janelt was sent off after receiving a second yellow card, leaving the hosts with nine players.
The victory provided Liverpool with a valuable response following their previous league defeat to Manchester City. Isak’s return from injury and match-winning contribution also offered encouragement as the Reds look to build momentum in the Premier League.
Liverpool will now turn their attention to their upcoming fixtures, hoping to maintain their progress after a hard-fought victory in west London.
