Pape Demba Diop and Strasbourg suffer defeat against Paris Saint-Germain

Pape Demba Diop and Strasbourg suffered a 3-1 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain after surrendering an early lead in their Ligue 1 encounter at the Stade de la Meinau on Sunday.

Strasbourg made a promising start against the reigning French champions, with Giovanni Reyna opening the scoring in the 17th minute. However, Paris Saint-Germain responded late in the game, scoring three times to secure the victory despite making several changes to their starting line-up.

The result will be disappointing for Strasbourg, who had held their advantage for much of the match before losing control in the closing stages.

Reyna gives Strasbourg an early lead

Strasbourg began the contest with confidence and took advantage of PSG’s much-changed starting team to move in front after 17 minutes.

Reyna found the net to give the home side a 1-0 lead against a Paris Saint-Germain side that started without several key players, including Achraf Hakimi, Nuno Mendes, Désiré Doué, Vitinha and Ousmane Dembélé.

The early goal put Strasbourg in a strong position, and they managed to protect their advantage for a considerable period against the reigning French champions.

Pape Demba Diop was part of the Strasbourg side that competed well against the visitors. The midfielder was substituted with around 15 minutes remaining, just as the match began to turn in PSG’s favour.

PSG respond with three late goals

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique introduced additional quality from the bench as his side searched for a way back into the game.

The changes eventually paid off in the 77th minute when Dembélé provided the assist for Illia Zabarnyi, who scored the equaliser to make it 1-1.

The goal shifted the momentum towards the visitors, who continued to press for a winner after drawing level.

Dembélé then found the net himself a few minutes later, completing PSG’s comeback and putting the visitors ahead for the first time in the match.

Strasbourg struggled to respond after losing their lead, and PSG took advantage to extend their advantage further. Désiré Doué scored the third goal to complete the turnaround and secure a 3-1 victory for the Parisian side.

Having spent much of the contest protecting their lead, Strasbourg were left to reflect on a late collapse that denied them a positive result despite their encouraging start.

PSG turn attention to Barcelona

The victory allows Paris Saint-Germain to approach their upcoming Champions League meeting with Barcelona on Tuesday after recovering from their early setback against Strasbourg.

Luis Enrique’s decision to introduce key players proved decisive, with Dembélé playing a central role in the comeback through his assist and subsequent goal.

For Strasbourg, the defeat will be difficult to accept after a performance that had placed them in a promising position for much of the encounter.

However, their inability to maintain their advantage in the closing stages ultimately proved costly, as PSG demonstrated their attacking strength to claim all three points in Ligue 1.
