Real Madrid move to secure Ghanaian prospect Oscar Naasei

Real Madrid are set to sign Ghanaian defender Oscar Naasei from Granada in a deal reportedly worth €2m, with the 21-year-old expected to continue his development with Real Madrid Castilla.

According to Footy-Africa, the Spanish giants have reached an agreement with Granada after negotiating down the initial asking price of €3m. The transfer is also understood to include a sell-on percentage for Granada, giving the club a share of any future fee if Naasei leaves Madrid.

Naasei has already completed his medical and is expected to formally complete his move to the Spanish capital shortly. The defender is not initially expected to join Real Madrid’s senior squad. Instead, he should begin with Real Madrid Castilla, the club’s reserve side, as he adapts to his new surroundings and seeks to earn a future opportunity with the first team.

Real Madrid were not alone in their interest. LaLiga side Rayo Vallecano and a German club had also been monitoring the Ghanaian, but the European champions have now won the race for his signature.

Naasei joined Granada in 2023 from Emmanuel City in Ghana. He worked his way through the club’s various age groups before establishing himself in senior football.

His performances during the 2025/26 campaign helped attract attention from several clubs. He made 37 appearances for Granada, starting 34 of those matches in LaLiga Hypermotion. His form was enough to underline his potential and place him on Real Madrid’s recruitment radar.

The defender has also made a quick start to the current season, featuring in Granada’s opening two matches. His ability to operate both centrally and at right-back is understood to be one of the qualities that has appealed to Real Madrid, who are looking to develop his versatility alongside his longer-term potential.

The move reflects Madrid’s continued interest in recruiting promising young players and developing them through the club’s structure before considering them for the first team. Naasei will now be expected to make that next step with Real Madrid Castilla, with senior involvement potentially becoming an objective in the future.

Granada’s immediate focus will remain on their league campaign. They are due to face Cordoba in the third round of Spain’s second-tier championship, LaLiga 2.
