Marcellin Bocove sets 2026-30 agenda at first Benin Football Federation meeting

Marcellin Bocove has begun work as president of the Benin Football Federation (FBF) just two days after securing a decisive victory in the federation’s election.

The newly elected president chaired the first working meeting of the Executive Committee at the FBF headquarters in Porto-Novo on Thursday, 27 August 2026. The meeting marked the first formal step for the new leadership after it took office and focused on establishing its roadmap and defining priorities for the 2026-30 term.

Bocove’s immediate move into the federation’s day-to-day affairs follows his overwhelming election victory at the Electoral General Assembly in Misserete on Tuesday, 25 August. Of the 79 votes cast, he received 76 in favour, with one vote against and two abstentions.

The Electoral Commission announced the official result at 12:54, formally confirming the appointment of Bocove and his new Executive Committee for the next four years.

The speed with which the new administration has moved from election victory to its first working session underlines Bocove’s intention to set a brisk pace for the management of Benin’s football. Rather than allowing a lengthy transition after the vote, the federation’s new leadership has already started organising its programme for the mandate ahead.

The Porto-Novo meeting provided the initial framework for that programme. It gave the Executive Committee an opportunity to identify the main areas requiring attention and to begin shaping the direction of the FBF between 2026 and 2030.

Bocove’s election delivered a clear mandate, with his support accounting for almost all of the votes recorded at the assembly. The single vote against and two abstentions were the only votes not cast in his favour among the 79 voters.

That result now places responsibility on the new president and his committee to turn the authority gained at the ballot box into practical action. The first meeting did not yet produce details of specific reforms, but it established the working foundation from which the new administration will proceed.

The Beninese sporting community will now be watching for the first concrete changes to emerge from the priorities discussed in Porto-Novo. Bocove’s opening days in office have already demonstrated a desire to begin quickly; the next stage will be to translate the Executive Committee’s initial roadmap into reforms for national football.
