Antoine Makoumbou swaps Super Lig for Sampdoria loan in Serie B

Congo and France midfielder Antoine Makoumbou has joined Sampdoria from Samsunspor on a season-long loan, with the defensive midfielder moving to Italy until 30 June 2027.

The 28-year-old, who plays primarily in defensive midfield, switches from Turkey’s Super Lig to Sampdoria’s Serie B campaign. His move was completed on 27 August 2026.

Makoumbou joined Samsunspor from Cagliari in July 2025 in a permanent transfer. He made one Super Lig appearance for the Turkish club this season, featuring in one of their opening matches before moving to Sampdoria.

The Paris-born midfielder stands 1.87m tall and is right-footed. He began his senior career with French club Ajaccio before moving to FSV Mainz 05 II in 2018. After subsequently spending time without a club, he joined Slovenian side Tabor Sezana in 2020.

Makoumbou moved to NK Maribor during the 2021-22 season, initially on loan from Tabor Sezana, before completing a permanent switch in January 2022. He helped Maribor win the Slovenian championship that season.

Cagliari signed him from Maribor in July 2022, and he spent three seasons with the Italian club before his move to Samsunspor. His latest transfer represents a return to Italy and gives Sampdoria a player with experience in midfield across France, Slovenia, Italy and Turkey.

Makoumbou’s Sampdoria stay is scheduled to run through the end of June 2027, when he is due to return to Samsunspor. He has now completed his loan move to the Serie B club.
