Keagan Dolly’s move to Hope FC remains undecided

Keagan Dolly’s proposed move to Hope FC is still not finalised, despite the former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder continuing to train with the Motsepe Foundation Championship newcomers.

The 33-year-old was not involved as Hope began their first season in the second tier with a 1-0 victory over the University of Pretoria at Athlone Stadium on Saturday.

Dolly remains under assessment by the Cape Town club and has yet to sign a contract with The Immortals. His continued presence in training means a move remains possible, although the club has not completed an agreement with the experienced midfielder.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns player became a free agent at the beginning of July after being released by Cape Town City. He was one of five players allowed to leave the club, alongside Njabulo Ngcobo, Dzenan Zajmovic, Sifiso Ngobeni and Siphamandla Dondolo.

Cape Town City had signed Dolly at the start of the 2025/26 campaign as they attempted to secure an immediate return to the Betway Premiership.

Dolly played an important part in their season as The Citizens finished second in the Motsepe Foundation Championship standings. That result earned them a place in the promotion/relegation play-offs, but City were unable to complete the final step back to the top flight.

The Mother City side finished bottom of the three-team mini-league. Milford won promotion through the play-offs, joining Motsepe Foundation Championship champions Kruger United in the Betway Premiership.

Dolly had previously been reported to be on course to join Hope after he was seen training with the club before the start of its first campaign in the Championship. His failure to feature in the opening match, however, confirmed that the move was not yet complete.

Hope have also recently made a change in the dugout, appointing former Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United defender Clayton Daniels as their new head coach last week.

Daniels replaced Dylan Deane, who was not retained after guiding The Immortals to their first promotion into the professional ranks. Hope achieved that milestone by winning the ABC Motsepe League national play-offs.

The 42-year-old Deane made a significant contribution during the club’s historic 2025/26 season. As well as carrying out his coaching duties, he played on the field and served as assistant coach throughout the campaign.

Dolly’s future therefore remains unresolved, with the midfielder continuing to train at Hope while the club assesses whether to offer him a contract. A possible move abroad has also previously been raised as an option for the player.
