Algeria women hit Central African Republic for eight in Olympic qualifying

Algeria women began their second-round qualifying tie for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games with an emphatic 8-0 victory over the Central African Republic in Algiers.

The Vertes took control at the Stade du 5-Juillet-1962 and opened the scoring after 20 minutes when Ndoumba Yatrein turned the ball into her own net.

Marine Dafeur doubled Algeria’s lead six minutes later, before Lina Boussaha made it 3-0 in the 30th minute. Sofia Bekhaled added a fourth before half-time as Algeria established a commanding advantage.

The hosts continued to dominate after the interval. Nouhad Naili scored in the 51st minute, with Ines Belloumou finding the net 17 minutes later.

Lynda Bendris extended the lead in the 80th minute before Nesrine Bahlouli completed the scoring in added time at 90+1 minutes.

Bahlouli was making her first appearance for Algeria and marked the occasion by finishing the attacking display.

The result gives Algeria a substantial advantage ahead of the second leg and leaves the side well placed to reach the third qualifying round.

The teams will meet again on Tuesday 13 October at 18:00, with the return match also taking place at the Stade du 5-Juillet-1962.
