Marc Cucurella unveiled by Real Madrid after €55m move from Chelsea

Marc Cucurella has been officially presented as a Real Madrid player after completing his €55m transfer from Chelsea, just days after making his competitive debut for the Spanish club.

The left-back was introduced at Real Madrid City on Monday alongside club president Florentino Perez and honorary president Jose Martinez ‘Pirri’. During the ceremony, Cucurella also posed with Real Madrid’s 15 European Cups.

The club did not hold a news conference, maintaining the presentation format used for several of their other European summer signings.

Cucurella’s first competitive appearance came on Saturday, when Real Madrid began his career at the club with a 2-1 away victory against Espanyol.

“Hello Madridistas, I’m very happy. It’s a special day for me and my family, and I’m really looking forward to meeting you at the Bernabeu,” Cucurella said.

A video shown during the event documented the defender’s career so far, featuring his time with Espanyol, Barcelona, Eibar, Getafe, Brighton and Chelsea. It also highlighted his success with Spain at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Cucurella said joining Real Madrid represented a major personal honour and made clear that his ambition is to help the club win further trophies.

“It’s an honour to wear the jersey of the best club in the world, considering everything it has won and everything it still has left to win,” he said.

“Hopefully, this will be a great era in which we can win many trophies.”

The UEFA Champions League is among the prizes Cucurella is targeting during his time in Madrid. He said Real Madrid’s renowned European evenings at the Santiago Bernabeu had made a lasting impression on him, particularly the dramatic comebacks that have become closely associated with the club.

Before joining Real Madrid, Cucurella had experienced the atmosphere at the Bernabeu as an opposing player. He will now have the opportunity to take part in those occasions in the home colours.

His next match for the club will be in La Liga, when Real Madrid host Real Sociedad at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday.

Cucurella’s presentation completes the public introduction of a player who has already taken his first steps on the pitch for Real Madrid. His arrival from Chelsea adds another experienced defender to the squad, while his early involvement in the win at Espanyol gives him the chance to build momentum immediately under his new manager.

The move also brings the defender back to Spain after spells in England with Brighton and Chelsea. His career has included substantial experience across the Spanish game, as reflected in the presentation video shown to supporters at Real Madrid City.

For Cucurella, Wednesday’s fixture against Real Sociedad will be his first opportunity to play in front of Real Madrid supporters at the Santiago Bernabeu as a member of the home side.
