Terem Moffi leaves Nice for fresh Bundesliga start with Hamburger SV

Terem Moffi has completed his permanent move from OGC Nice to Hamburger SV after signing a three-season contract with the German club.

The 27-year-old Nigeria international passed his medical before putting pen to paper, with Hamburger SV confirming the transfer on social media. The move keeps Moffi in professional football but gives him the chance to rebuild his career in the Bundesliga after an increasingly difficult spell in France.

OGC Nice will receive €2.5m for the striker, including €500,000 in potential bonuses. Moffi’s departure will also reduce the French club’s wage bill. During his time with Nice, he earned an annual salary of €900,000, equivalent to 585,000,000 CFA francs.

The transfer marks the end of Moffi’s time on the French Riviera, where he initially made a positive impression after joining from FC Lorient. However, his role gradually diminished as his spell with the club progressed.

A series of injuries disrupted his progress, while his relationship with some of his coaches became increasingly complicated. Tensions with sections of the Nice support also contributed to a difficult period for the forward, limiting his influence and making it harder for him to establish himself as a regular first choice.

Moffi spent the second half of last season on loan at Porto. He now leaves Nice permanently and is contracted to Hamburger SV until June 2029. His current market value is estimated at €8m, although the immediate transfer fee is significantly lower and depends in part on the achievement of the agreed bonuses.

The move represents a fresh opportunity for a player who previously showed the ability to make an impact in Ligue 1. At Hamburger SV, Moffi will look to regain the form that made him a notable attacking option during his earlier career, while adapting to a new league and a different footballing environment.

For OGC Nice, the transfer brings both a sporting and financial conclusion to a relationship that had become increasingly strained. The club will also benefit from removing Moffi’s salary from its budget as it prepares for its next Ligue 1 fixture.

Moffi’s departure means he will not be involved in that fixture, having instead begun the next stage of his career in Germany. His contract with Hamburger SV runs through June 2029, giving the Nigerian striker a long-term platform to try to rediscover his best level in the Bundesliga.
