Fiston Mayele explains why he chose Al Ahly Tripoli after leaving Pyramids FC

Congolese striker Fiston Mayele has revealed that he was convinced to join Al Ahly Tripoli by the Libyan club’s ambitious project after ending his spell with Egyptian side Pyramids FC.

Mayele officially said goodbye to Pyramids this week after helping the club establish itself as one of Africa’s leading sides, before completing his move to Libya.

The forward said his decision to join Al Ahly Tripoli was a personal one, but admitted he was particularly impressed by the vision presented to him by the club’s president.

“I feel really welcomed here. A lot of people are already asking me, ‘Why did you choose Al Ahly Tripoli?’ It is a choice I made personally. I am the one who plays football, and I have a team behind me,” Mayele said, according to Pan Africa Football.

“If I made the decision to join Al Ahly Tripoli today, it is first and foremost because it was a personal choice, but also because I really liked the club’s project.

“The president has put a lot of resources into the club. He has brought in very good players with the ambition of taking the team forward and, above all, winning titles.

“More players are going to arrive, and I think you will quickly discover them and appreciate them.”

Mayele arrives at Al Ahly Tripoli with considerable experience on the African club scene, having played a key role in Pyramids’ recent success.

The Congolese striker is now expected to spearhead Al Ahly Tripoli’s attack as the club targets domestic success and a strong run in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The 2025 CAF Champions League winners’ departure leaves Pyramids without one of their key attacking options, while Al Ahly Tripoli will hope his goals can help them compete against some of the continent’s strongest teams.

Mayele acknowledged the scale of the challenge ahead, particularly in continental competition, but insisted the Libyan club is preparing to compete.

“As you all know, we are going to play in the Confederation Cup, and I think this season will be very, very difficult, especially with the presence of some big teams,” he said.

“But we are preparing very well, and we are determined to take on this challenge.”

The striker’s arrival is part of Al Ahly Tripoli’s wider plans to strengthen the squad and build a team capable of challenging for major honours.
