Harry Kane has won the 2026 Ballon d’Or, receiving the award at a ceremony in London on Monday after a remarkable campaign for Bayern Munich and England.
The Bayern Munich striker claimed the prize for the first time in his career, finishing ahead of Kylian Mbappe and Lamine Yamal. His award recognised both his exceptional goalscoring record and his contribution to a season in which Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga, German Cup and German Super Cup.
Kane scored 61 goals and provided seven assists in 51 appearances for Bayern Munich during the 2025-2026 season. His consistent finishing and sustained attacking output made him the leading candidate for the individual honour.
The England captain also played a central role in his country’s run at the 2026 World Cup. He scored six goals and supplied one assist in seven matches, helping England finish third and ending the tournament among its leading scorers.
Across the entire season, Kane made 65 appearances for Bayern Munich and England, scoring 73 goals and registering eight assists. He ended the campaign with three trophies won with the German club.
The Ballon d’Or adds further recognition to a season in which Kane combined outstanding individual numbers with major team success. The award also places him among the leading forwards in world football.
Kane is the first Englishman to win the prize since 2001, when former Liverpool and Real Madrid striker Michael Owen was honoured. He is the fifth English winner overall, following Stanley Matthews in 1956, Bobby Charlton in 1966 and Kevin Keegan, who won in 1978 and 1979.
Kane also collected the Gerd Muller Trophy at the same ceremony, receiving the award for the leading goalscorer in 2026.
