Leipzig linked with Borussia Monchengladbach teenager Wael Mohya

Germany-Morocco midfielder Wael Mohya is the subject of a transfer rumour linking him with a move from Borussia Monchengladbach to Bundesliga rivals Leipzig.

The 17-year-old attacking midfielder has established himself in Monchengladbach’s first-team squad this season, making seven Bundesliga appearances and recording two goals and one assist. He has also scored in the DFB-Pokal.

Mohya is valued at €17m and has made a rapid progression through Monchengladbach’s youth system. He moved from the club’s under-17 team to the under-19s in July 2024 before joining the senior setup in July 2025.

His breakthrough follows a successful 2024-25 campaign in which he helped Monchengladbach’s under-17 side win the German Under-17 Bundesliga title. The midfielder has since been used regularly in the Bundesliga, starting 57% of his league appearances and featuring in 58% of the available minutes this season.

Mohya was born in Mettmann and is eligible to represent both Germany and Morocco. He plays primarily behind the striker and is comfortable using either foot.

The reported interest from Leipzig comes as Mohya continues his first full season around Monchengladbach’s senior side. No transfer has been confirmed, and he remains under the club’s control while developing as part of its Bundesliga squad.
