Cagliari sign Gambia winger Alieu Fadera from Como on loan

Gambia winger Alieu Fadera has joined Cagliari from Como on loan, completing a move to the Serie A club on 21 August 2026.

The 24-year-old left winger will remain with Cagliari until 30 June 2027, with the move taking him to his third Italian club after previous spells with Como and Sassuolo. Fadera is a right-footed wide player who stands 1.82m tall and was born in Bakau, The Gambia.

Fadera returns to Serie A after making 56 appearances in the competition, scoring three goals and providing six assists. He spent the 2025-26 season on loan at Sassuolo from Como before returning to the club at the end of June.

Como signed Fadera from Belgian side Genk on 14 August 2024 for €5m. He had joined Genk from Zulte Waregem the previous year for €4m, following a spell with the Belgian club in which he established himself in domestic football.

Before moving to Italy, Fadera made 69 appearances in the Jupiler Pro League, scoring 10 goals and registering nine assists. He also recorded five goals and five assists in 22 appearances in Slovakia’s top flight, alongside a further goal and assist during the league’s relegation play-offs.

His career has also included appearances in domestic cup competitions and European qualifying ties. Fadera scored twice and supplied two assists in seven Croky Cup matches, while he contributed three assists in three Slovnaft Cup appearances. He has also featured in the Champions League and Europa Conference League qualifying rounds.

Fadera began his senior career with Real de Banjul before moving to Slovak club Pohronie in March 2020. He joined Zulte Waregem in August 2021 for €800,000, starting a run of transfers that led to his move to Genk and then Como.

The move gives Cagliari a left-sided attacking option with experience of Serie A and football in Belgium and Slovakia. Fadera’s loan switch from Como to Cagliari is now complete, with the agreement running until June 2027.
