Hadj Moussa’s next move remains uncertain as Ipswich Town emerge as latest suitors
The future of Feyenoord winger Anis Hadj Moussa remains unresolved with the transfer deadline approaching, despite growing expectations that the Algeria international will secure a major move this summer.
Ipswich Town have emerged as the latest club to show an interest in the 24-year-old, with the newly promoted Premier League side reportedly prepared to offer €30m for the right winger, according to Top Mercato.
That figure may not be enough to convince Feyenoord to sell. The Dutch club rejected a similar €30m proposal from Al-Ahli earlier in the summer and are understood to be demanding €37m, according to Foot Mercato.
The €7m gap does not appear impossible to bridge, particularly given Ipswich Town have already spent almost €180m during the current transfer window. The more significant question may be whether Hadj Moussa would be willing to join a newly promoted club whose most recent Premier League campaign ended in immediate relegation in 2025.
Earlier in the summer, Newcastle were linked with the Algeria international, while Benfica – who explored a move for him last summer – also revived their interest. Those clubs would appear to fit more closely with the ambitions of the player, who wants to take the next step in his career.
Hadj Moussa has built his reputation through consistent performances for a 24-year-old winger competing in one of Europe’s most visible leagues. Since joining Feyenoord, he has scored 25 goals and provided 13 assists in 85 appearances across all competitions.
Some of those performances came in the Champions League, helping attract the attention of several European scouts. However, with the end of the summer window approaching, there has been no clear progress on a transfer to any of the more high-profile destinations previously mentioned.
Speculation grows around European clubs
Unsubstantiated claims on social media, encouraged in part by lobbying from some Algeria supporters, have even linked Hadj Moussa with Manchester City. Some supporters have already suggested he could succeed Riyad Mahrez at the club.
Manchester City may be looking for a winger following Savinho’s imminent €93m move to Tottenham, although their likely priority is understood to be a player operating on the left rather than Hadj Moussa’s usual position on the right.
Other social media users have compared Hadj Moussa’s statistics with those of Mika Godts, who also played in the Eredivisie last season before completing a move to Paris St-Germain.
Algerian outlet DZFoot wrote on Thursday that Borussia Dortmund would be the “mariage ideal” for Hadj Moussa’s continued development. That assessment appears to be more a projection than evidence of a concrete transfer approach.
The name of Besiktas has also circulated, although it remains unclear whether the Turkish club have made genuine progress or whether the link is merely speculation.
For now, Ipswich Town appear to be the most active option. It may not represent the most prestigious destination available to Hadj Moussa, but it could give him a route into English football and an opportunity to climb the game’s hierarchy quickly.
That path would resemble Riyad Mahrez’s rise at Leicester, where the Algeria international established himself in English football before moving on to Manchester City.
Hadj Moussa’s form at Feyenoord has made him one of the more closely watched Algerian players in Europe, but the winger is still waiting for an offer that matches both his ambitions and Feyenoord’s valuation.
