Ayyoub Bouaddi ready to join Manchester City

Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero has backed Ayyoub Bouaddi to step into the huge void left by Rodri, with the club working urgently to reinforce their midfield before the transfer window closes.

Rodri completed a £65.4 million move to Barcelona earlier this month, bringing an end to his influential spell at City and leaving manager Enzo Maresca with a major challenge as he looks to rebuild the heart of his midfield.

The departure has been compounded by Tijjani Reijnders’ transfer to Al-Qadsiah, meaning City have lost two important midfield options ahead of their Premier League opener against Bournemouth on Sunday.

City have subsequently been linked with Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez and Lille teenager Bouaddi as they search for reinforcements. Aguero believes the Moroccan-born midfielder has the qualities required to succeed Rodri despite his age.

Aguero impressed by Bouaddi

Speaking to Stake, Aguero highlighted Bouaddi’s maturity and ability to play from deep, arguing that the teenager could eventually become an ideal replacement for the World Cup and Ballon d’Or winner.

“Elliot Anderson had an excellent season last year, which also earned him a starting place for England during the World Cup. He’s very dynamic, a box-to-box midfielder who can shoot, get forward and create chances. He can be very important for the team.

“The same goes for Ayyoub Bouaddi. He performed at a very high level at the World Cup. Despite his age, he showed incredible maturity when playing out from the back. He has all the qualities to be a great replacement for Rodri, who was always vital for City.”

Bouaddi’s emergence has attracted considerable attention, with the 18-year-old viewed as one of the most promising young midfielders available. His composure in possession and ability to dictate play from deep have strengthened the case for City to make a move.

Deal now down to City and Lille

Reports indicate Bouaddi is waiting for permission to travel to England to undergo his medical, with the player understood to be keen on completing the move.

The remaining hurdle is reportedly the financial agreement between City and Lille, as the Premier League champions attempt to accelerate negotiations.

With only 10 days remaining before the transfer window shuts, City face a race against time to secure a replacement for Rodri and strengthen a midfield that has already lost two key players.
