Egypt defender Omar Fayed joins Italian outfit Frosinone
Egypt international defender Omar Fayed has completed a move to Italian club Frosinone from Fenerbahce, beginning a new chapter in his career.
Frosinone confirmed the signing on a permanent four-year contract, with the 23-year-old set to experience Italian football for the first time.
The club said: “The club announces that it has reached an agreement with Fenerbahce to sign player Omar Fayed Abdelwahab Rakhaoui, as the defender, born in 2003, will join the club on a permanent contract extending for four years”
Fenerbahce also confirmed the transfer, saying: “An agreement has been reached with Frosinone Calcio for the permanent transfer of Omar Faid, who joined our first team in 2023. We wish him success in the next stage of his career.”
Fayed begins first Italian experience
Fayed travelled to Rome last Friday before undergoing his medical examinations, which he successfully completed.
He subsequently signed the paperwork to complete his transfer to Frosinone, who have recently returned to Italy’s top flight.
The move provides Fayed with his first opportunity to compete in Serie A after spending the past few seasons gaining experience across several European leagues.
Defender has built European experience
Since joining Fenerbahce in 2023, Fayed has spent periods on loan with Serbian side Novi Pazar, Belgian club Beerschot and Portuguese outfit Arouca.
Those spells have given the Egyptian defender experience in different European football environments before his return to Turkey at the beginning of the current season.
His permanent move to Frosinone now gives him the chance to establish himself in one of Europe’s major leagues.
Following Egyptian Serie A footsteps
Fayed’s move adds another Egyptian name to the history of players from the country who have featured in Italian football.
Mohamed Salah enjoyed successful spells with Fiorentina and Roma between 2015 and 2017, while Hazem Emam was among the early Egyptian players to experience Serie A after joining Udinese in the late 1990s.
Ahmed Hossam Mido also played for Roma in 2004, while Hani Said represented Bari and Ahmed Hegazi joined Fiorentina in 2012.
Fayed will now look to follow their path and make his own mark in Italy as he begins his first Serie A campaign with Frosinone.
