Gerard Pique revives Barcelona’s 2010 El Clasico triumph in fresh Real Madrid taunt

Gerard Pique has reignited the rivalry between Barcelona and Real Madrid by posting a mocking video referencing Barcelona’s 5-0 victory in the 2010 El Clasico, just days before the two sides meet again.

The former Barcelona defender shared a 14-second clip on his official TikTok account in which he printed a photograph of himself celebrating during that famous match at Camp Nou.

Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 5-0 in the game, with Jose Mourinho in charge of the visitors. Pique then walked away from the camera carrying the newspaper on which the image had been printed.

His only caption was: “Important week.”

The post, published on 22 October 2026, was widely viewed as a deliberate message to Real Madrid supporters before Sunday’s meeting.

Pique has regularly been at the centre of controversy in El Clasico, both during his playing career and after his retirement. He played 40 times for Barcelona against Real Madrid, scoring two goals and helping his side to 19 victories.

His most recognised provocation came during Barcelona’s treble celebrations in 2009, when he led the chant: “Boti, boti, madridista, qui no boti.” The phrase was aimed at supporters of Real Madrid and became one of the most memorable moments of the celebrations.

Pique also created headlines when he referred to his Spain team-mate Alvaro Arbeloa as a “traffic cone”. On another occasion, he questioned the legitimacy of the Champions League titles won by Real Madrid.

Although Pique ended his playing career on 3 November 2022, he has continued to fuel the long-standing rivalry between the two clubs with outspoken comments and direct challenges to Real Madrid.

He is now involved in the presidency of FC Andorra and has also established the Kings League project, but remains closely associated with the most contentious moments of the Barcelona-Real Madrid rivalry.
