Celtic target Southampton goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu in possible summer move

Gavin Bazunu, who holds Irish and Nigerian nationality, is being linked with a move from Southampton to Celtic.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper is currently with Southampton, who compete in the Championship, while Celtic play in the Scottish Premiership. Bazunu has yet to make an appearance for Southampton this season in either the Championship or the EFL Cup.

Bazunu returned to Southampton at the end of May after a loan spell with Stoke City. He joined Stoke in January 2026, having spent the previous part of the 2025-26 season with the club he rejoined permanently after the loan ended.

The goalkeeper originally moved to Southampton from Manchester City’s under-21 side in July 2022 for a reported €14m. He had previously spent time on loan at Portsmouth and Rochdale after beginning his career with Shamrock Rovers.

A move to Celtic would come with Bazunu still under contract at Southampton until 30 June 2027. His current market value is listed at €8m.

Bazunu was born in Dublin and has been part of the Southampton squad since returning from Stoke. The reported interest comes as Celtic are linked with the Republic of Ireland-qualified goalkeeper, although the proposed transfer remains at the rumour stage.
