Moroccan striker Tawfik Bentayeb is close to joining Belgian side Anderlecht from Union Touarga, with the transfer reportedly awaiting a medical and work permit.

The 24-year-old is expected in Belgium this week to complete the remaining formalities before signing a contract that would keep him at Anderlecht until 2030.

The move would take the Morocco international hopeful into another European league after an impressive spell in France’s Ligue 2.

Anderlecht agree deal for prolific striker

Belgian outlet Voetbalkrant reports that Anderlecht have agreed to pay an initial €4m for Bentayeb, with bonuses potentially taking the overall value of the deal to €4.5m.

Union Touarga are also set to retain a 20% share of any future transfer fee.

Anderlecht moved decisively for the striker after their 1-0 defeat by SK Beveren on 17 August highlighted their need for greater attacking firepower.

The Belgian club saw off competition from Union Saint-Gilloise and Standard de Liège to secure the deal.

Sibierski reunion

Anderlecht sporting director Antoine Sibierski has played a major role in Bentayeb’s impending move.

Sibierski previously brought the Moroccan to Troyes on loan towards the end of the 2025 summer transfer window and has now identified him as the Belgian club’s preferred option at centre-forward.

Bentayeb enjoyed an outstanding campaign at Troyes last season, scoring 18 goals to finish as Ligue 2’s leading scorer.

His form has significantly increased his profile, with Transfermarkt valuing the Moroccan at €8m.

European move could boost Morocco hopes

The proposed transfer would represent another important step in Bentayeb’s career and give him the opportunity to compete in Belgium’s top flight.

A successful spell at Anderlecht could also strengthen his prospects of earning a Morocco call-up, with European football providing an increasingly important pathway for Moroccan players seeking international recognition.

Bentayeb remains a Union Touarga player until the final stages of the transfer are completed, but his move to Anderlecht now appears close to completion.
