Liepaja weigh move for Nigerian defender Michael Okafor

Nigerian centre-back Michael Okafor, currently with Poland’s Gornik Boguszowice, has been linked with a move to Latvian club Liepaja.

The 26-year-old defender is being considered for a transfer to the Virsliga side after joining Gornik Boguszowice earlier this year. He moved from fellow Polish club Odra Wodzislaw on 8 February in a free transfer.

Okafor has made one recorded appearance for Gornik Boguszowice, playing 10 minutes in the VL Sachsen-Anhalt this season. He has also been registered for the Sachsen-Anhalt-Pokal.

The left-footed defender was born in Nsukka, Nigeria, and has spent recent seasons with clubs in Poland’s lower divisions. Before moving to Gornik Boguszowice, he had spells with Odra Wodzislaw, RW Thalheim, MKS Opolanin and Sygnal Lublin.

Liepaja are competing in Latvia’s top flight, and any move would represent another change of club for Okafor within the 2025-26 campaign. The transfer remains at the rumour stage, with no agreement or fee reported.
