West Bromwich Albion complete free signing of Bristol-born midfielder Kayden Lucas

England-Ghana attacking midfielder Kayden Lucas has joined West Bromwich Albion Under-21s from Newcastle United Under-18s on a free transfer. The 18-year-old completed the move on 18 August 2026 and has signed a contract with West Bromwich Albion running until 30 June 2027.

Lucas arrives at the Premier League 2 club after spending the previous two seasons with Newcastle’s Under-18 side. He joined Newcastle from Clevedon Under-18s on 1 July 2024, beginning his spell in the club’s youth set-up before switching to West Brom’s Under-21 squad.

Born in Bristol on 30 October 2007, Lucas is listed as an attacking midfielder and is left-footed. He holds English and Ghanaian nationality, giving him an international background connected to both countries. At 1.92m, he adds a notable physical presence to a West Brom development group, while his preferred role is in the central attacking area of midfield.

Lucas has not yet made an appearance in the 2026-27 National League Cup or Under-18 Premier League this season. His move to West Brom comes as the club’s Under-21 side competes in Premier League 2, providing a new setting for the midfielder after his time with Newcastle’s youth team.

His earlier spell at Clevedon preceded the move into Newcastle’s academy structure, with Lucas making the step from Under-18 football there to another Under-18 programme in July 2024. Two years later, he has moved into Under-21 football with West Bromwich Albion.

The transfer was completed without a fee, and Lucas is now contracted to West Bromwich Albion through the end of June 2027.
