Galatasaray weigh move for Chicago Fire’s South African defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi

South African defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi is being linked with a move from Chicago Fire to Galatasaray, with the Turkish Super Lig club reportedly interested in the 20-year-old centre-back.

Mbokazi joined Chicago on 26 January 2026 and remains under contract until 31 December 2029. His current market value is €8m, while the reported likelihood of a move to Galatasaray is listed at 74%.

The left-footed defender moved to Major League Soccer after a successful 2025-26 season with Orlando Pirates in South Africa. He was named Player of the Tournament and helped Orlando Pirates win the South African league title, the South African Cup and the MTN8 Cup.

Born in Hluhluwe, KwaZulu-Natal, Mbokazi is listed at 1.77m and operates primarily at centre-back. He is currently registered with Chicago Fire, who compete in MLS, while Galatasaray are competing in Turkey’s top flight.

Mbokazi’s long-term contract means any potential move would involve a transfer fee, with his deal not due to expire until the end of 2029.
