Egyptian FA launches ‘Modern Referee’ platform to improve consistency

The Egyptian Football Association has launched a new digital platform designed to help referees apply the Laws of the Game more consistently and continue their development ahead of the new season.

The platform, called Modern Referee, was introduced by the referees’ committee, which is chaired by Essam Abdel-Fattah. Details of the initiative were announced through the Egyptian Football Association’s official account.

Modern Referee contains educational material intended to bring greater consistency to refereeing decisions during matches throughout the season. It will also provide referees with regular assessments, with their performances reviewed by officials from the referees’ committee.

The assessment programme will be divided into two main sections. The first will be theoretical, while the second will use video-based refereeing situations to explain and clarify decisions involving handball, offside, advantage, fouls and the use of video technology.

The platform will also outline the latest amendments to the Laws of the Game, which are scheduled to be applied during the forthcoming season. In addition, referees will have access to physical tests aimed at improving and maintaining their fitness levels at different stages of the campaign.

The new league season is due to begin on 21 August.

Essam Abdel-Fattah will lead the Egyptian referees’ committee this season. The full committee is made up as follows:

– Chairman: Essam Abdel-Fattah – Vice-chairman: Gamal El-Ghandour – Vice-chairman: Samir Othman – Member: Ahmed Wagih – Member: Mahmoud Ashour

The committee’s development responsibilities have also been set out, with the work divided between several former referees and current officials.

According to FilGoal.com, Mohamed El-Sabahi will work alongside committee member Mahmoud Ashour on the development of referees in the use of video technology.

Mahmoud El-Banna, Mohamed El-Hanafi and Mohamed Youssef will be responsible for working with referees on their overall development.

Assistant referees will be supported by Ayman Deigeesh and Hany Abdel-Fattah.

All of the development work will be conducted under the supervision of vice-chairman Gamal El-Ghandour.

The launch comes before the start of the new league campaign and reflects the committee’s stated aim of combining educational resources, regular testing and practical video analysis. The platform is intended to give referees a single reference point for the latest law changes and for reviewing key match situations, while the physical programme is designed to support their performance across the season.
