Konyaspor remain determined to sign Al Ahly midfielder Imam Ashour

Konyaspor remain committed to signing Al Ahly midfielder Imam Ashour, with the Turkish club reportedly prepared to offer $7.5m for the Egypt international.

The latest details were reported by Turkish website yenihaberden, which said negotiations between the clubs are continuing despite Al Ahly initially rejecting an approach for the player.

Konyaspor, who began their season with a 1-0 defeat by Rizespor, have continued to pursue Ashour after his impressive performances at the 2026 World Cup, where he scored twice.

The Turkish side are understood not to have abandoned their efforts to complete the transfer. According to the report, Al Ahly have reduced their asking price from $8m, while Konyaspor are willing to pay $7.5m.

Konyaspor also want to use the final available place in their squad for a foreign player to register Ashour, should the deal be completed.

Al Ahly previously turned down an initial offer from the Turkish club, as reported by FilGoal.com.

A source close to Ashour told FilGoal.com: “Konyaspor are still interested in signing Imam Ashour and have raised their offer to Al Ahly to $4.25m.”

Ashour’s current contract with Al Ahly runs until the summer of 2028. FilGoal.com also reported that Al Ahly have offered him a new deal worth 35m Egyptian pounds per season.

The midfielder has attracted interest from elsewhere, with Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad and Scottish side Celtic also previously reported to be monitoring his situation.

Ashour joined Al Ahly in the summer of 2023 from Danish club FC Midtjylland. Before that move, he had played for Ghazl El Mahalla and Zamalek.

He has made 105 appearances for Al Ahly in all competitions, scoring 32 goals and providing 25 assists.

During his time with the club, Ashour has won the Egyptian Premier League twice, the Egypt Cup, the Egyptian Super Cup twice, three continental cups, the CAF Champions League and a bronze medal at the FIFA Club World Cup.

His two goals at the 2026 World Cup were his first for Egypt. He scored his opening goal against Belgium with a powerful long-range strike before heading in against Australia.

Ashour has played 34 times for the Pharaohs. His performances on the international stage have contributed to the renewed interest in his services, with Konyaspor now seeking to secure his signature despite the gap between the clubs’ earlier proposals.

The Turkish club’s determination comes after their opening-round loss to Rizespor, but their reported intention remains clear: they want Ashour to occupy the final foreign-player slot in their squad. Al Ahly must now decide whether to accept the revised offer or retain a player whose contract remains in place for two more seasons.
