Sierra Leone, Morocco seal two-year football development partnership
The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) aimed at accelerating football development and strengthening institutional cooperation between the two countries.
The agreement was signed on Monday, August 17, 2026, in Rabat, with SLFA President Babadi Kamara and his Moroccan counterpart Fouzi Lekjaa formally agreeing to the terms of the partnership.
Focus on training and technical development
The collaboration will cover several key areas of football development, with particular emphasis on improving the capacity of technical and administrative personnel in Sierra Leone.
Under the agreement, officials and staff from the SLFA will have opportunities to travel to Morocco for training, observation and professional development programmes.
The two federations will also work together to strengthen referee development, youth football and the organisation of football workshops designed to improve knowledge and expertise across the game.
Morocco to support Sierra Leone infrastructure
A major component of the partnership will be the development of football infrastructure in Sierra Leone.
The FRMF will support the establishment of a technical training ground in an identified community in need, providing a facility intended to contribute to grassroots and long-term football development.
The partnership will also give Sierra Leonean football authorities access to specialised sports injury hospital facilities in Morocco, potentially strengthening medical support and rehabilitation opportunities for players and football personnel.
Friendly matches for national teams
The agreement further provides a framework for both countries to arrange international friendly matches involving their national teams.
Senior and youth selections, as well as men’s and women’s national teams, will be considered as part of the exchange, creating opportunities for competitive preparation and greater interaction between the two footballing nations.
The partnership reflects Sierra Leone’s efforts to deepen international cooperation as it seeks to strengthen its football structures, while Morocco continues to expand its role in supporting football development across Africa.
Two-year agreement
The partnership will initially run for two years, although the SLFA and FRMF can extend the arrangement should both parties agree.
The agreement brings together two federations with a shared interest in technical advancement, youth development, infrastructure and broader cooperation, with the expectation that the collaboration will produce lasting benefits for football in Sierra Leone.
