Mamelodi Sundowns bid farewell to Thapelo Maseko after FC Copenhagen move
Mamelodi Sundowns have bid farewell to midfielder Thapelo Maseko following his departure from the club and subsequent move to Danish giants FC Copenhagen.
The 22-year-old South African international was officially unveiled by FC Copenhagen on Tuesday morning after signing a four-year contract, bringing an end to his spell at Chloorkop.
Maseko endured a difficult period at Sundowns, with limited game time and a prolonged spell on the sidelines making it difficult for him to establish himself as a regular member of the squad.
The midfielder joined Sundowns with a reputation as one of South Africa’s promising young talents, but his time with the club did not go according to expectations.
With a new challenge now awaiting him in Denmark, Maseko will be hoping to revive his career, secure regular playing opportunities and continue his development in European football.
Sundowns acknowledged his departure with a heartfelt farewell message, thanking the player for his contribution during his time at the club.
“A chapter in Yellow comes to a close. We appreciate everything you brought to the club and wish you all the best for the next chapter,” Sundowns wrote.
Maseko will now begin a new chapter with FC Copenhagen, where he will look to make a strong impression and prove his quality in the Danish Superliga.
His move also offers him an opportunity to regain his confidence and playing rhythm after a challenging spell in South Africa.
For Sundowns, the departure brings an end to Maseko’s time at Chloorkop, while the player will now focus on making the most of his fresh start in Denmark.
