Gomora United chairman Joe Seanego insists club is not for sale

Gomora United chairman Joe Seanego says the club is not being sold and that no shares have changed hands, despite negotiations with a potential investor.

Seanego confirmed there had been interest from a businessman who initially came to the club in connection with sponsorship discussions. However, the chairman said the talks did not amount to a sale and that Gomora United would remain under its existing ownership.

The club is currently undergoing changes to both its playing squad and coaching staff, but Seanego said those developments should not be confused with a change in ownership.

“We are not selling the club; there were some negotiations, yes, and there was some interest, but the club is not for sale. Actually, no shares were sold. What happened is we were looking for sponsorship, and the guy we approached happened to be also interested in buying shares in the team,” Seanego tells KickOff.

The prospective investor did not seek to purchase the entire club, according to Seanego. Instead, he expressed an interest in acquiring shares and investing in Gomora United.

“He wanted to buy shares, and yes, we did sit down with him. He made a good offer, and we said, ‘ It’s fine, we will look at that. So he didn’t want to buy the club; he wanted to invest by buying shares. We told him the club is not on sale, and it will never be on sale.

“We didn’t turn him down; we just gave him our proposal. It was just the first engagement, some sort of an enquiry.”

Seanego’s comments clarify the reports emerging from the club’s camp about its future and the discussions with the potential buyer. While Gomora United considered the proposal, the chairman stressed that the club itself was not available for purchase.

The talks began as the club searched for sponsorship, with the potential backer’s interest in owning shares developing during those discussions. Seanego said the club responded with its own proposal rather than rejecting the approach outright.

Gomora United are also dealing with changes on the football side after a difficult first season in the professional ranks. The club failed to win a single away match during the 2025/2026 campaign, but still avoided relegation.

That season was Gomora United’s first at professional level after the club earned promotion from the Gauteng ABC Motsepe League. Despite their struggles on the road, they secured their place in the professional ranks for another campaign.

The club’s ownership position, however, remains unchanged, with Seanego making clear that Gomora United is not for sale and that no shares were sold during the negotiations.
