Cameroon Women Crown Historic 2026 Africa Cup Triumph with Million-Dollar Reward and Yaounde Orphanage Donation

Cameroon’s newly crowned women’s African champions have been praised after making a charitable donation to an orphanage in Yaounde before securing a landmark Africa Cup of Nations victory.

The Indomitable Lionesses defeated Malawi 3-0 in Sunday’s final in Rabat, Morocco, to claim the title for the first time in the history of Cameroon’s women’s national team.

The players, led by Michaely Bihina and her team-mates, donated to an orphanage in the capital on the eve of the final, according to Cameroon Radio Television (CRTV).

Their gesture of generosity drew widespread praise from supporters on social media, adding to the celebrations surrounding the team’s historic achievement.

The players are also set to receive individual bonuses of 52 million CFA francs, worth about €79,273, following their triumph.

Sports Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi had pledged the payments in a statement released before Cameroon’s semi-final against hosts Morocco. Cameroon won that match after a goalless draw, prevailing 3-1 on penalties.

The minister’s announcement came after he rejected reports that the authorities had failed to pay players’ bonuses.

The Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) is also expected to receive a $2m prize from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), according to Cameroonian outlet Cfoot.
