Lille monitoring South African left-back Thato Sibiya after Sundowns breakthrough

Thato Sibiya, the South African left-back at Sundowns, has been linked with a move to French Ligue 1 club Lille.

The 20-year-old defender is the subject of reported interest from Lille, with the rumour emerging on 17 August 2026. No agreement has been confirmed, and Sibiya remains a Sundowns player.

Sibiya joined Sundowns’ senior squad from the club’s reserve side on 19 January 2026, having previously progressed through the club’s youth system. He has yet to make an appearance for the first team in the 2026-27 Betway Premiership season, with Sundowns having played two possible league matches, and has also not featured in the MTN8 campaign.

His current market value is listed at €50,000.

Sibiya was part of the South Africa Under-20 side that won the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations in 2025. He also collected a senior honour with Sundowns last season, when the club won the CAF Champions League.
