MLS switch mooted for Egypt midfielder Emam Ashour as New England eye Al Ahly deal
Egyptian midfielder Emam Ashour is being linked with a move from Al Ahly to New England, with the MLS club a potential destination for the 28-year-old.
Ashour, who plays in central midfield, is valued at €5m and remains under contract with Al Ahly until 30 June 2028. The Egyptian club signed him from Danish side Midtjylland in July 2023 for €2.68m.
He featured in all five of Egypt’s possible matches at the 2026 World Cup, starting every game, scoring twice and playing 76% of the available minutes. Ashour’s tournament involvement comes after a successful spell with Al Ahly, including a CAF Champions League triumph in the 2023-24 season.
The midfielder has made 157 Premier League appearances during his career, scoring 36 goals and providing 25 assists. He has also played 40 times in the CAF Champions League, contributing five goals and six assists.
Ashour began his senior career in Egypt before moving to Zamalek, where he won the Egyptian Premier League and Egyptian Cup. His move to Midtjylland in January 2023 was followed by a return to Egypt six months later when Al Ahly completed his signing.
A switch to New England would therefore represent another international move for Ashour, although his existing Al Ahly contract means he is not approaching the end of his current deal.
