Qarabag interest puts CSKA Sofia’s James Eto’o in transfer spotlight
Cameroonian-Bulgarian midfielder James Eto’o has been linked with a move from CSKA Sofia to Azerbaijani club Qarabag.
The 25-year-old central midfielder joined CSKA Sofia from fellow Bulgarian side Botev Plovdiv in September 2024 in a deal worth €1m. He has a contract with the Sofia club until 30 June 2029.
Eto’o has made seven appearances for CSKA Sofia this season, including four in Europa League qualifying, where he has provided one assist. He has started 60% of the club’s efbet Liga matches and has played 50% of the available league minutes.
His recent record includes helping CSKA Sofia win the Bulgarian Cup in the 2025-26 season, his second success in the competition after lifting the trophy with Botev Plovdiv in 2023-24.
Qarabag, who compete in Azerbaijan’s Premyer Liqa, are now linked with a move for the midfielder, although the rumour does not indicate that an agreement has been reached. Eto’o’s current market value is listed at €1.8m, while his long-term contract means CSKA Sofia remain in a strong position over his future.
For now, Eto’o remains a CSKA Sofia player as the club begin the 2026-27 campaign.
