Paul Onuachu’s Trabzonspor future depends on Saudi move and Darwin Nunez talks

Paul Onuachu could decide his future in the coming days, with the transfer window approaching its final phase and Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli preparing a renewed bid for the Trabzonspor striker.

The 32-year-old Nigeria international is Al Ahli’s leading target after an impressive season, according to Footy-Africa. However, Trabzonspor are currently holding firm over their valuation, placing a €30m price tag on their main forward.

The Turkish club could be willing to accelerate formal discussions if Al Ahli return with an improved offer close to that figure. At present, the Saudi club are the only serious contender still pursuing a deal for Onuachu.

Onuachu is understood to be attracted by the possibility of moving to the Saudi Pro League, but he does not intend to force the issue with Trabzonspor’s board. His personal terms are not expected to be a problem should the two clubs reach an agreement over the transfer fee.

A significant factor in the negotiations could be whether Trabzonspor complete their search for a replacement. The club are progressing with their interest in Darwin Nunez, who is currently under contract with Al Hilal.

If the Uruguay international joins Trabzonspor, the Turkish side may become more willing to sanction Onuachu’s departure. Nunez’s arrival would give the club greater freedom to consider a deal before the transfer window closes, potentially easing their current stance on the Nigerian striker.

Onuachu’s contract with Trabzonspor runs until the summer of 2028. Despite the Turkish club’s €30m valuation, Transfermarkt lists his market value at €6m.

Fenerbahce also made enquiries about the forward earlier in the summer. However, the Istanbul club decided to end their interest because of the financial demands involved and instead completed the signing of Romelu Lukaku.

Trabzonspor are also preparing for a major European fixture. They will soon play the first leg of their UEFA Europa League play-off against Ferencvaros.

The betting odds listed by 1xbet make Trabzonspor favourites for the match, with the Turkish side priced at 1.62 to win. A draw is listed at 4.10, while Ferencvaros are priced at 4.33.

The outcome of Trabzonspor’s recruitment plans, particularly their pursuit of Nunez, could therefore have a direct impact on whether Onuachu remains in Turkey or moves to Saudi Arabia before the market closes.
