Bolton target Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo in Championship transfer link

Arthur Okonkwo, a Nigerian-English goalkeeper at Wrexham, has been linked with a move to fellow Championship club Bolton.

The 24-year-old joined Wrexham permanently from Arsenal on a free transfer in July 2024 and is under contract until 30 June 2027. He was part of the Wrexham side that won promotion to the third tier in the 2023-24 season.

Okonkwo has made no appearance in Wrexham’s recorded EFL Cup fixture this season, with his current performance record showing no minutes played.

The 1.98m goalkeeper came through Arsenal’s youth system and spent time on loan with Crewe Alexandra, before joining Austrian side Sturm Graz temporarily during the 2022-23 campaign. He returned to Arsenal before spending the following season on loan at Wrexham.

His spell at Sturm Graz brought an Austrian Cup winners’ medal, while his first season with Wrexham preceded the club’s promotion campaign. The potential move would therefore involve a goalkeeper who remains contracted to Wrexham but has previous experience of loan spells in England and abroad.

No transfer fee or probability has been established for the proposed switch. Okonkwo’s current agreement with Wrexham runs for another season beyond the 2026-27 campaign, leaving the Welsh club in a position to retain him unless an agreement with Bolton is reached.
