Hapoel Jerusalem recruit Togo-Ghana full-back Sharani Zuberu after Slovak title success

Togo-Ghana defender Sharani Zuberu has joined Hapoel Jerusalem from Slovan Bratislava on a free transfer, bringing a four-time Slovak championship winner to Israel’s Ligat ha’Al.

The 26-year-old left-back switches clubs after four successive Slovak league titles with Slovan Bratislava, having been part of the squad that won the championship in each of the 2022-23, 2023-24, 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons.

Zuberu, who was born in Accra and is listed as holding Togo and Ghanaian nationality, joins Hapoel Jerusalem as a left-footed defender. He stands 1.85m tall and has also played in European competition during his career.

His most recent appearances came in Champions League qualifying, where he featured twice for Slovan Bratislava during the 2026-27 campaign. He played 37 minutes in those matches, with no goals or assists recorded.

The move takes Zuberu to a club competing in Israel’s top division after his spell with Slovan, where he arrived in February 2023 as a free agent. His time in Bratislava followed earlier spells in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

Before joining Slovan, Zuberu had been part of the Dunajska Streda setup, including a loan spell at Michalovce during the 2020-21 season. He originally moved to Dunajska Streda from Sparta Prague B on a free transfer in July 2019, having started his senior career with Ghanaian side Dreams FC.

Hapoel Jerusalem become the latest club in a career that has included football in Ghana, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The move also returns Zuberu to a new league after more than three years with Slovan Bratislava, where his honours include four national titles.

His market value is listed at €150,000, while his highest recorded value has been €350,000. No contract length has been disclosed for his move to Hapoel Jerusalem.

Zuberu’s free transfer to Hapoel Jerusalem was completed on 13 August 2026.
