Munashe Garananga: Zimbabwe defender joins Lyngby BK from Copenhagen on loan

Zimbabwe centre-back Munashe Garananga has joined Lyngby BK from Copenhagen on loan, completing a move that keeps him in Denmark’s Superliga until 30 June 2027.

The 25-year-old defender returns to the league after spending the second half of the 2025-26 campaign on loan at Hibernian FC. He went back to Copenhagen at the end of that spell before switching to Lyngby on 13 August 2026.

Garananga has already featured for Lyngby during the 2026-27 campaign, making one Superliga appearance and playing twice in UEFA Conference League qualifying. He has recorded 129 minutes across those competitions without scoring or providing an assist.

The Harare-born player is right-footed and stands 1.88m tall. His arrival gives Lyngby an experienced central defensive option with previous exposure to domestic football in Denmark, Moldova, Belgium and Belarus.

Garananga joined Copenhagen from KV Mechelen in July 2024 for €5m. He made the move to Belgium from FC Sheriff in February of that year, having helped the Moldovan club win the Moldavian league and cup during the 2022-23 season.

His time at Copenhagen brought further silverware, with the defender winning the Danish championship and Danish Cup in the 2024-25 season. He then moved temporarily to Hibernian in February 2026, before returning to the Danish club at the conclusion of the loan.

The defender’s career also includes an earlier spell with FC Sheriff after his move from Dynamo Brest in January 2023. Before beginning his European career, he played for Ubuntu Cape Town.

Garananga’s transfer value is €1.5m, while his previous highest recorded value was €2.5m. He joins a Lyngby side competing in the Superliga and in the qualifying rounds of the Conference League, with his latest move extending his stay in Denmark.

The loan from Copenhagen to Lyngby BK was completed on 13 August 2026 and runs until 30 June 2027.
