Al-Etisalat SC sign Ghana centre-back Kofi Agbesimah in Iraq move

Ghana centre-back Kofi Agbesimah has joined Al-Etisalat SC from FC Samartex on a free transfer, completing a move to the Iraqi club on 12 August 2026.

The 29-year-old defender leaves FC Samartex after two seasons with the Ghana Premier League side. Agbesimah joined Samartex from Hearts of Oak in July 2024, having previously played for Bechem United and Bectero FC.

Agbesimah brings extensive domestic experience to Al-Etisalat, having made 212 Premier League appearances during his career. He has scored seven goals and provided one assist in those matches, with his record reflecting a lengthy spell at the heart of Ghana’s top-flight football.

The defender’s move follows his departure from FC Samartex without a transfer fee. His market value was recorded at €100,000 at the time of the switch, while his highest recorded value was €125,000.

Agbesimah began his senior club career with Bectero FC before joining Bechem United at the start of 2018. He moved to Hearts of Oak in August 2023 and spent the following campaign with the Accra-based club before transferring to Samartex.

At 1.81m, Agbesimah offers Al-Etisalat experience in central defence as he begins the next chapter of his career outside Ghana. The move also marks his first recorded transfer away from the country after more than eight years in Ghanaian club football.

Agbesimah has now completed his free transfer from FC Samartex to Al-Etisalat SC.
