Hull City pull out of Mohamed-Ali Cho deal after €20m transfer nears completion

Hull City have withdrawn from a proposed €20m move for OGC Nice forward Mohamed-Ali Cho, despite negotiations having reached an advanced stage and the player’s medical being scheduled.

The transfer had appeared close to completion after more than a week of intensive discussions involving OGC Nice, the English club and Cho’s representatives. An agreement worth about €20m had begun to take shape, with all the main conditions seemingly in place.

However, Hull City have now taken the decision to end the talks unilaterally, according to Nice-Matin. The move has reportedly caused surprise and confusion at both Nice and in the player’s camp.

For OGC Nice, the proposed deal represented far more than the departure of one player. At €20m, the sale of the 22-year-old would have been the club’s biggest income of the summer transfer window.

That money was viewed as particularly significant because Nice are expected to reduce their spending considerably during the current transfer period. The French club had therefore regarded Cho’s sale as an important source of financial relief.

The deal had progressed to the point where Nice gave the player the green light on Saturday to continue with the necessary formalities. Work connected to his employment contract had begun, while his medical examination was scheduled for Sunday.

The situation changed dramatically within a matter of hours.

Hull City’s decision comes as the newly promoted Premier League club deals with a significant injury crisis. During a pre-season match against Frankfurt on Sunday, Hull City lost two more players to injury.

That latest setback is understood to have encouraged the club’s directors to reassess their priorities with the Premier League season only days away. Rather than committing the full €20m to Cho, Hull City are now believed to be considering using the money to strengthen other areas of the squad.

The English club could instead pursue several less expensive signings or focus on players whose profiles better match its revised requirements.

The collapse of the transfer is a major setback for Nice, who had expected the deal to provide a substantial financial boost. Cho may now remain on the Cote d’Azur unless another club makes a late approach and offers him a fresh route away from OGC Nice.

The timing leaves the forward’s immediate future uncertain, with Nice preparing to begin their French league campaign against Lorient. The match will be the club’s first of the season.

The betting company 1xbet lists Nice as favourites for that fixture, with odds of 2.15 for a home win. A draw is priced at 3.45, while a Lorient victory is listed at 3.20.
