Othniel Raterink joins ADO Den Haag from Cagliari on loan

Dutch-DR Congo right-back Othniel Raterink has joined Eredivisie club ADO Den Haag from Serie A side Cagliari on loan.

The 20-year-old has moved to the Netherlands on a deal running until 30 June 2027, with his arrival confirmed on 12 August. Raterink will return to the country after less than seven months in Italy, where he joined Cagliari from De Graafschap in January.

Cagliari paid €1.1m for Raterink when he left De Graafschap on 30 January 2026. His move to ADO Den Haag is a loan transfer and the agreement includes a scheduled return to Cagliari at the end of the 2026-27 season.

Born in Winterswijk on 7 April 2006, Raterink came through the youth system at De Graafschap before progressing into senior football. He spent the 2024-25 season on loan with Bayer Leverkusen’s under-19 side, returning to De Graafschap’s under-21 team when that spell ended.

Raterink then moved into De Graafschap’s senior setup before earning his transfer to Cagliari. The right-footed defender stands 1.89m tall and plays primarily at right-back.

His switch brings him back to Dutch football with ADO Den Haag, who compete in the Eredivisie. The move also reunites him with the country where he developed through De Graafschap’s academy system before taking his first steps abroad.

Raterink’s transfer history includes moves between De Graafschap’s youth teams, the club’s under-21 side and Leverkusen’s under-19 team before his senior transfers to De Graafschap, Cagliari and now ADO Den Haag. His career has therefore taken him from Dutch academy football to Italy’s top division and back to the Netherlands at the start of the 2026-27 campaign.

The defender joins ADO Den Haag from Cagliari on loan until 30 June 2027.
