Cameroon report ticketing “blockages” before Women’s Africa Cup of Nations semi-final against Morocco

The Cameroon Football Federation has raised concerns about difficulties buying tickets for its supporters ahead of Wednesday’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations semi-final against Morocco.

Mohamadou Houssifou, Cameroon’s ambassador to Morocco, said he had encountered unusual obstacles while trying to secure tickets for Cameroonian fans. He has written directly to the president of the Moroccan Federation to ask organisers to resolve the situation.

In his letter, the ambassador said the Cameroon embassy was prepared to purchase about 1,000 tickets for supporters.

«Les besoins des supporters camerounais se chiffrent autour de mille (1000) billets a raison de 50 billets de categorie 1 et de 950 billets de categorie 3 qui seront payes par l’Ambassade du Cameroun au Maroc», indique-t-il.

Houssifou said the problem was particularly concerning because Cameroon supporters had not experienced similar difficulties at the team’s earlier matches in the tournament.

«A la difference des autres matches ou nous avons pu acheter des billets sans difficultes, nous rencontrons, depuis ce matin, des blocages pour acheter les billets de la susdite rencontre qui opposera l’equipe nationale feminine du Cameroun a celle du Royaume du Maroc.»

No specific allegation has been made about the cause of the reported difficulties. Cameroon’s immediate request is for a solution that would allow its supporters to attend the match.

Morocco and Cameroon are due to meet on Wednesday, 13 August at 21:00 at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat.

The Atlas Lionesses reached the last four after beating South Africa 2-1. Cameroon, meanwhile, produced one of the biggest surprises of the tournament by eliminating Nigeria, ten-time African champions, with a 1-0 victory.

The semi-final will be the fourth meeting between the two national teams. Cameroon won the first encounter 4-1 at the 2000 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, before Morocco claimed a 1-0 victory at the Aisha Buhari Cup in 2021.

More recently, the Indomitable Lionesses defeated Morocco 1-0 in a friendly in Casablanca in 2025.

This will be the first time the two sides have met in the knockout stages of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, adding further significance to a fixture already carrying major expectations. The winners will secure a place in the final.

Morocco are expected to have strong home support once again, with the match taking place in Rabat. Cameroon’s concern is that supporters travelling or based in the country should be able to obtain tickets after the embassy said it had previously been able to make purchases without difficulty.

The ticketing issue has therefore added an off-field dispute to the build-up of a semi-final between two sides with contrasting routes to the last four. Morocco overcame the reigning champions South Africa, while Cameroon’s win over Nigeria removed one of the competition’s most decorated teams from contention.

For the Indomitable Lionesses, the match offers a chance to reach the final after their headline-making victory over Nigeria. Morocco, playing in front of what is expected to be another sizeable home crowd, are seeking to continue their run on home soil and move one step closer to the title.
