Norwich City join race for €4m-rated Nigerian winger Daniel Job

Norwich City have joined a growing list of clubs monitoring Nigerian winger Daniel Job, with the Canaries reportedly keen to secure the 20-year-old after his impressive breakthrough campaign in Norway.

According to transfer journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Norwich are among several clubs tracking Job, who currently plays for Kongsvinger IL.

The Championship side are looking to strengthen their attacking options after Ali Ahmed suffered an injury during pre-season, increasing the need for another winger.

Philippe Clement has already overseen significant changes to the Norwich squad during his first major opportunity to shape the team, but the Canaries are not finished in the transfer market. Their interest in Job underlines the club’s continued strategy of searching for emerging talent rather than relying solely on established names.

Norwich, however, face considerable competition for the Nigerian’s signature. Serie A outfit Lecce have already tested Kongsvinger’s resolve with a €3 million offer, but that bid was rejected. Job is understood to be valued at more than €4 million, with additional clauses potentially increasing the overall package.

Lecce, Salzburg and Basel also circling

Lecce are not alone in their pursuit of Job, with Austrian giants RB Salzburg, Swiss club FC Basel and Swedish side AIK also reportedly interested.

The competition reflects the rapid rise of a player who has taken significant strides since leaving Nigeria. Job developed through the Future Pro youth system before moving to Norway, where he began building his reputation within the country’s football pyramid.

He joined Sarpsborg 08 on loan in March 2024 with an option to make the move permanent. Initially deployed for Sarpsborg 08 2 in the Norwegian Third Division, Job made an immediate impression, scoring eight goals in 13 appearances.

Sarpsborg subsequently activated the purchase option in July 2024 and handed him a contract running until the end of 2028. His progress quickly took him into senior football, with his Eliteserien debut arriving on July 20, 2024.

Job marked his first start in the Norwegian top flight in memorable fashion, scoring against Haugesund in August and giving an early indication of his potential at a higher level.

Job emerging as one of Norway’s brightest young attackers

Looking for consistent first-team minutes, Job spent the first half of the 2025 campaign on loan at Egersund. He featured 12 times in the league, scoring three goals, while also adding appearances in cup competition.

His next move came in February 2026, when he joined Kongsvinger IL in a deal involving Sarpsborg. The switch has proved pivotal to his development, with Job establishing himself as an important part of Kongsvinger’s attack in the 2026 OBOS-ligaen campaign.

The Nigerian has regularly started games and produced seven goals and six assists in 16 league appearances, giving him a direct contribution to 13 goals.

His performances have also strengthened his standing with Kongsvinger’s supporters. Job was voted the club’s Player of the Month for June/July 2026, recognition that further highlighted his growing influence.

He also won praise for his gesture after receiving the award, donating the prize money to a children’s cancer charity.

Norwich’s recruitment strategy could make Job an ideal fit

Norwich’s interest is consistent with a recruitment model that places considerable emphasis on identifying promising players before their market value rises significantly.

The Canaries have increasingly looked towards emerging talent from different markets, seeking players who can develop within the club while potentially delivering substantial future value.

Job fits that profile particularly well. At 20, he already has experience across several levels of Norwegian football and is now producing numbers that have attracted attention from clubs across Europe.

For Norwich, the appeal extends beyond his immediate ability to provide another option on the wing. His age, recent development and current production suggest there could be considerable room for improvement.
