Kaizer Chiefs will be without at least four players when they resume their Betway Premiership campaign against Stellenbosch FC at FNB Stadium on Tuesday.
The Soweto club have been out of action for the past three weeks because of the extended international break, but coach Fernando da Cruz will still have several absentees for the fixture.
Goalkeeper Brandon Petersen remains unavailable as he continues his recovery from a knee injury. The club said he has returned to individual training but is not yet ready to rejoin the team.
Midfielder Lebohang Maboe is also sidelined with an ankle injury. Maboe has featured in all eight of Chiefs’ matches this season.
“Chiefs still have four major injury concerns, with Brandon Petersen returning to individual training recovering a knee injury, Lebohang Maboe – who has played in all eight of Chiefs’ games this season – nursing an ankle injury, while Phili and Siphesihle Ndlovu remain long term absentees,” the club confirmed on its website.
Phili and Siphesihle Ndlovu continue to be long-term absentees, completing the four-player injury list provided by Chiefs.
Renaldo Leaner is expected to deputise in goal once again. He kept a clean sheet on his Chiefs debut in the goalless draw with Golden Arrows before the FIFA break.
The club have not issued an update on Luke Baartman, who was forced off while representing South Africa’s national under-23 team in their 1-1 draw against Algeria last week.
Chiefs will begin Tuesday’s match unbeaten in the Betway Premiership this season.
