Jose Mourinho backs Eduardo Camavinga to become key figure at Real Madrid

Jose Mourinho has placed his trust in Eduardo Camavinga despite the French midfielder’s inconsistent form, with the Real Madrid manager valuing his energy, commitment and ability to make a difference in midfield.

According to Diario AS, Mourinho has been particularly pleased with the 23-year-old’s performances in training and his contribution when called upon, believing his ability to break opposition lines gives Real Madrid an important dimension.

Camavinga provided a decisive contribution in Sunday’s 2-1 El Clásico victory over Barcelona, coming off the bench in the 80th minute before setting up Kylian Mbappé’s winning goal seven minutes later.

The Frenchman showed excellent acceleration to get past Pau Cubarsí before delivering the ball into Mbappé’s path for the decisive finish.

Mourinho has maintained his confidence in the midfielder since arriving at the Santiago Bernabéu during the summer, appreciating his work ethic and ability to inject energy into the team.

However, consistency remains an issue for Camavinga. He has started only three matches this season and accumulated 365 minutes, largely featuring as an impact substitute.

The midfielder has also recognised the need to improve his concentration and reduce mistakes after a difficult previous campaign affected his involvement with the French national team.

With Federico Valverde currently operating at right-back, Camavinga sees an opportunity to establish himself more firmly in Madrid’s midfield.

Mourinho’s backing could prove important as the French international looks to turn his recent encouraging performances into regular starting opportunities.

The Real Madrid coach has made it clear that competition for places remains open, insisting that every player in his squad has the quality to earn a starting position.
