Benfica transfer link emerges for Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo

England and Nigeria-qualified centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo is being linked with a move from Premier League club Chelsea to Benfica in Portugal’s Liga Portugal.

Adarabioyo, 28, is valued at €16m and has a contract with Chelsea until 30 June 2028. The length of that deal means any move to Benfica would be expected to involve a transfer fee rather than a free transfer.

The link between the clubs emerged on 11 August 2026, with no transfer agreement reported. Adarabioyo’s position as a centre-back is the central detail in the proposed move, which would take him from England’s top flight to one of Portugal’s leading clubs.

The defender joined Chelsea and remains under contract at Stamford Bridge, where his current deal runs for almost two more seasons beyond the date of the reported interest. His eligibility for both England and Nigeria is also part of his profile, although the transfer link concerns his club future rather than his international status.

Benfica’s interest, if it develops further, would therefore involve negotiations with Chelsea over a player whose contract does not expire until 2028 and whose listed market value is €16m. For now, Adarabioyo remains a Chelsea player, with the proposed switch to Benfica unconfirmed.
