Salim Diakite: Malian-French Palermo defender linked with Zulte Waregem

Malian-French right-back Salim Diakite is being linked with a move from Palermo to Belgian club Zulte Waregem.

The 26-year-old currently plays for Palermo in Serie B, while Zulte Waregem compete in Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League. Diakite joined the Italian club on 25 January 2024 and has established his current professional situation as a defender on Palermo’s books.

He is contracted to Palermo until 30 June 2028, meaning any move would involve the Italian club agreeing to a transfer rather than the player becoming available as a free agent. Diakite’s market value is recorded at €1.5m.

The defender was born in Les Mureaux, France, on 3 June 2000 and holds Malian and French nationality. He stands 1.86m tall and is listed as right-footed, with right-back his primary position.

The reported interest from Zulte Waregem comes as the Belgian side considers a player currently operating in Italy’s second tier. Diakite’s existing contract gives Palermo a long-term position over his future, while the rumour places him among the players being considered for a move to the Jupiler Pro League.

No transfer has been confirmed, and Diakite remains a Palermo player under contract through June 2028.
