Newcastle United have reportedly made an offer for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha, but the German club are only prepared to consider selling the 25-year-old for more than €120m.

According to Sky, Newcastle have already submitted a bid as they look to strengthen their midfield ahead of the new Premier League season.

However, Dortmund are reportedly not under pressure to sell and have internally decided that only an exceptional offer would persuade them to part with the Germany international.

Dortmund set astronomical valuation

Dortmund sporting director Ole Book has previously played down the possibility of Nmecha leaving the club this summer.

“I would consider a transfer extremely unlikely. Of course, astronomical sums can theoretically always come up, but I can pretty much rule that out for Felix this summer.”

The club’s reported €120m valuation would represent a significant investment for Newcastle and could make negotiations difficult.

Despite the Premier League club’s interest, Dortmund remain confident they can retain Nmecha unless an offer reaches the level they have set.

Newcastle rebuild midfield

Newcastle’s pursuit of Nmecha comes as the club look to reshape their midfield following the departures of Sandro Tonali to Tottenham and Bruno Guimarães to Arsenal.

Those two transfers have reportedly brought Newcastle almost €200m in combined fees, giving the club significant funds to reinvest in their squad.

Nmecha has emerged as a potential target after making significant progress under Dortmund manager Niko Kovac.

The midfielder has developed into an important player for both club and country and is now regarded as a key member of the Germany national team.

For Newcastle, the challenge will be convincing Dortmund to lower their demands, with the Bundesliga club currently showing little indication that they are willing to part with Nmecha for anything close to an ordinary transfer fee.
