Harry Kane poised for extended Bayern Munich contract as priorities shift

Harry Kane is expected to open talks with Bayern Munich this week over a three-year contract extension that would keep him at the German club until 2029.

The England striker’s current deal runs until 30 June 2027, but an agreement on fresh terms would extend his stay in Bavaria by a further three seasons. The Times reports that formal discussions between the 33-year-old and Bayern’s senior officials are likely to begin in the coming days.

The proposed extension would represent a significant change in direction for Kane, whose long-term ambition of returning to the Premier League has previously been linked to his desire to surpass Alan Shearer’s record for goals in the competition.

Instead, the forward now appears increasingly settled in Munich and focused on adding to his collection of major honours with Bayern Munich. The UEFA Champions League is understood to remain the principal target for both the player and the club.

Kane joined Bayern after leaving England to take his career to another level in Germany. Since moving to Munich, he has become fully established in the city and is said to be highly comfortable there with his family.

Financial considerations do not appear to be the driving force behind the possible renewal. Kane’s current salary is estimated at about 25m euros per year, and his earnings are not expected to rise substantially under the new agreement. That suggests the decision is being shaped more by sporting ambitions and personal circumstances than by the prospect of a significant pay increase.

His performances have strengthened Bayern’s desire to retain him. Kane has won two successive Bundesliga titles since arriving at the club and produced remarkable figures during the 2025-26 campaign, scoring 61 goals in 51 appearances across all competitions.

Those numbers have established him as one of the most dangerous strikers in European football and made him a central part of Bayern’s plans for the future. The club’s wish to preserve attacking stability over the next several years is a key reason for its efforts to secure a longer-term commitment from the England captain.

A return to the Premier League had long been viewed as a possible chapter in Kane’s career, particularly because of his pursuit of Shearer’s record. However, the latest reports indicate that his immediate attention is now on winning more silverware in Germany rather than going back to English football.

Negotiations are expected to be resolved in the coming days. If completed, the deal would give Bayern Munich greater certainty in attack while allowing Kane to continue his career at one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
