Ayyoub Bouaddi pushing to join Manchester City from Lille this summer
Ayyoub Bouaddi is pushing to leave Lille for Manchester City this summer, despite the move previously being discussed for 2027.
The 18-year-old Moroccan international midfielder is understood to want his future resolved sooner and is seeking an immediate step up to the Premier League. According to Fabrizio Romano, Bouaddi has already reached a personal agreement with Manchester City.
The reported agreement means the player’s contractual terms have been settled, with Bouaddi’s desire to make the move now rather than wait until 2027 said to be clear.
However, Manchester City and Lille must still reach an agreement over a transfer fee before the move can be completed. The negotiations are therefore entering a decisive phase, with Lille facing a difficult situation as the determination of one of its most highly regarded young players could influence the discussions.
Bouaddi’s preference is now understood to be firmly focused on Manchester City. While a transfer to the English champions had previously been viewed as a possibility for a later date, the midfielder is now attempting to bring that timetable forward and secure a move during this summer’s transfer window.
The remaining issue is between the two clubs. Manchester City still have to find financial common ground with Lille, while the French club must assess how to respond to Bouaddi’s wish to leave immediately.
Personal terms being agreed do not mean the transfer has been finalised. Lille and Manchester City have yet to settle the financial details, leaving the deal dependent on negotiations between the clubs.
Bouaddi’s position could nevertheless prove significant. Lille are dealing with a player who is determined to take the next step in his career now, rather than continue with the possibility of a Manchester City move in 2027. That stance may carry weight as both sides attempt to resolve the outstanding transfer terms.
For Manchester City, the opportunity is to complete an agreement for a young midfielder who has already made clear his preference for a move to England. For Lille, the challenge is to negotiate from a position that takes account both of the club’s financial expectations and the player’s desire to join Manchester City at the earliest opportunity.
At present, the personal agreement between Bouaddi and Manchester City is reportedly in place, but the transfer itself remains subject to an agreement between Lille and the Manchester club.
