Al-Wehdat interest gives Raja decision to make over Oyewusi and Cherara

Al-Wehdat SC have opened serious negotiations with Raja Club Athletic over the possible summer departures of Nigerian forward Mathias Oyewusi and Mohammed Cherara.

Raja are prepared to consider offers for both players as they continue to reshape their squad, but the Moroccan club will only approve a move if the financial terms meet their expectations.

According to Moroccan outlet Le360, Raja’s management is willing to allow Oyewusi and Cherara to leave, particularly as the club seeks to reorganise its squad and create more room for the players who feature in the plans of Tunisian head coach Nassereddine Nabi.

However, the pair’s departure is dependent on suitable financial proposals being submitted. Raja have made it clear that any offer from Al-Wehdat SC, or from another interested club, must reflect the amounts the Moroccan side paid to sign the players during last summer’s transfer window.

The condition is intended to prevent Raja from making a financial loss on either player. The club’s decision-makers believe that any departure should be aligned with the original investment made in the two footballers.

Raja signed Oyewusi and Cherara as part of efforts to strengthen their squad, but neither player managed to establish himself as a regular in the starting line-up to the extent expected. That has encouraged the club to examine the possibility of ending their time in Casablanca if offers arrive that satisfy its financial requirements.

Al-Wehdat’s interest has therefore created the prospect of a move for the two players, although discussions have not yet reached the stage where formal bids are confirmed. Raja will assess the proposals if the Jordanian club progresses from negotiations to an official offer.

The situation comes as Raja continue to rebuild their squad ahead of next season. The club have already announced the signing of Younes Dahmani from Union Touarga on a contract running until the summer of 2030.

That move is part of a wider effort to refresh the squad and clarify the group of players who will form part of Nabi’s plans. Oyewusi and Cherara are now among those whose futures could be decided by the quality of the offers received rather than by an immediate insistence that they remain with the team.

Further developments are expected in the coming days, especially if Al-Wehdat SC formally submits financial proposals for either player or for the pair. Raja’s management will then have to evaluate the terms and decide whether they meet the conditions set for a departure.

For now, the Moroccan club’s position is clear: it does not object to Oyewusi and Cherara leaving, but only if the financial return is considered appropriate and avoids a loss on the deals that brought them to Raja last summer.
