Lucas Digne returns to Paris Saint-Germain after 10 years in Aston Villa move

Paris Saint-Germain have re-signed Lucas Digne from Aston Villa, bringing the France international back to the club a decade after his previous spell in Paris.

Digne has agreed a three-season contract with Paris Saint-Germain that will run until 2029. The club have also confirmed that the 32-year-old will wear the number 12 shirt.

The move marks Digne’s return to Paris Saint-Germain after leaving the club 10 years ago. He previously represented the French side from 2013 to 2016, before continuing his career elsewhere in English football.

Digne joined Aston Villa in 2022 from Everton and spent four seasons with the club. During that period, he made 182 appearances, scoring four goals and providing 24 assists.

His final campaign with Aston Villa included 44 appearances, during which he created seven goals. Those figures underline the level of involvement he maintained before securing a return to Paris Saint-Germain.

Digne was also part of the France squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the team finished fourth. His return to Paris follows that international tournament and represents a significant development in his club career.

Paris Saint-Germain’s announcement confirms the length of the agreement and the shirt number that Digne will use, while bringing back a player who had already spent three seasons with the club earlier in his career.

The transfer completes a move from Aston Villa for Digne after four years at the Premier League club. His departure comes after a campaign in which he played 44 times and registered seven assists, adding to the 182 matches, four goals and 24 assists recorded during his overall Aston Villa spell.

For Paris Saint-Germain, the signing reunites the club with a player who first represented them between 2013 and 2016. Digne will now remain under contract until 2029, giving him the opportunity to begin a second chapter with the French club.

His career has therefore come full circle: after joining Aston Villa from Everton in 2022 and completing four seasons in England, Digne is heading back to Paris Saint-Germain at the age of 32. The club have assigned him the number 12 shirt as he starts his return.
