Juventus refuse key clause as Joshua Zirkzee loan talks with Man United stall

Juventus have made a key demand in negotiations with Manchester United over a potential season-long loan for Joshua Zirkzee, with the Italian giants unwilling to include a purchase option in the agreement.

Juventus are increasingly confident of taking the 25-year-old striker back to Serie A, where he previously enjoyed the most productive period of his career. However, talks have reportedly hit an obstacle over the structure of the proposed deal.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus do not want any purchase clause attached to the loan, despite United seeking guarantees over the Dutchman’s future transfer value.

Luciano Spalletti is keen to add Zirkzee to his squad before the new Serie A campaign gets underway, but the two clubs must resolve the disagreement before the move can be completed.

United want assurances over Zirkzee’s future

Zirkzee joined United in 2024 but has struggled to establish himself as a consistent first-choice forward at Old Trafford.

The Dutchman has scored only nine goals and registered four assists in 71 appearances for the club, failing to convince successive managers that he can become a long-term attacking solution.

United are reportedly open to allowing him to leave temporarily, particularly with the striker unlikely to force his way into Michael Carrick’s plans.

However, the Premier League club remain determined to protect their investment. Zirkzee is under contract until June 2029, giving United significant control over his future.

While United are not insisting that Juventus commit to buying him, they want some form of assurance that a permanent transfer could follow his loan spell.

That position has become the main sticking point in negotiations, with Juventus refusing to compromise on their preference for a straightforward temporary arrangement.

Italy offers Zirkzee chance to revive career

A return to Italy could provide Zirkzee with the ideal opportunity to rebuild his reputation after two difficult years in Manchester.

The forward established himself as one of Serie A’s most promising attackers during his time with Bologna, particularly in the 2023/24 campaign.

He scored 11 league goals that season and played a key role in helping Bologna secure Champions League qualification, attracting interest from several leading European clubs before ultimately joining United.

Juventus believe another spell in familiar surroundings could help Zirkzee rediscover the form that made him such a sought-after player.

Spalletti is now pushing to make that reunion happen, but Juventus’ refusal to accept a purchase clause means negotiations with United remain unresolved.

For United, the priority is avoiding a situation in which Zirkzee returns to form in Turin only for his market value to rise without the club having a clear route towards a permanent sale.

For Juventus, however, the immediate focus is securing the striker on loan without committing to a future transfer fee before seeing whether he can reproduce his Bologna form.

The coming days could therefore determine whether the two clubs can find common ground and finally unlock Zirkzee’s return to Serie A.
